"Each year, Lent offers us a providential opportunity to deepen the meaning and value of our Christian lives, and it stimulates us to rediscover the mercy of God so that we, in turn, become more merciful toward our brothers and sisters. In the Lenten period, the Church makes it her duty to propose some specific tasks that accompany the faithful concretely in this process of interior renewal: these are prayer, fasting and almsgiving."
"According to the teaching of the Gospel, we are not owners but rather administrators of the goods we possess: these, then, are not to be considered as our exclusive possession, but means through which the Lord calls each one of us to act as a steward of His providence for our neighbour".
"In the Gospel, Jesus explicitly admonishes the one who possesses and uses earthly riches only for self."
With Lent starting with Ash Wednesday, the Pope reminds of how we must put extra emphasis on prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. Reflect on how you will address each of these holy acts during the ncxt forty days.

What I normally do when I fast during the lent season is I give up one of my favorite foods and I will do something nice for other people when I see someone who needs help. When I pray during the lent season I pray for the person that I receive on my prayer card. I also pray for everyone and their needs they will need during the lent season. I really like thanking God for everything that he has given us and most of all Jesus Christ for dying on the cross for us for our sins. When I fast I think of all of those who don’t have anything to eat I wish that all of the food that have I wish I could give some out. I know if I could see someone on the street I would defiantly help them out. When ever we have a can food drive like we do right now or anything that could help them I would bring in what I can. When I pray, I pray for all of the people out there that don’t even believe in Jesus Christ or even God. I pray for them because they need Jesus and God in there life, everyone does. Jesus and God are in their life, they just don’t know it yet. This is how I pray, fast, and almsgiving during lent for me and other people.

One way I will pray will be by attending mass every Sunday and Thursday. I will also write to god in a journal that Mrs. Schaefer is giving my class. I will also try to pray every night before I go to sleep and when I wake up. I will fast by not eating meat unless it’s fish, on all Fridays during Lent. I will also be giving things up for Lent. Like I drink a lot of soda so I am going to give it up for Lent. I will also try not to be disrespectful to anyone. Also I am not going to argue with my brother or sister at all during Lent. So I don’t stress in body in my family out I am going to do every thing I’m told to do the first time and not wait to do it until the third or fourth time I’m told. As well as doing all of this I’m going to be doing a lot of community service. The reason is because I’m taking Confirmation this year and to receive the sacrament I need thirty service hours. That is what I’m going to do this Lenten season.

I am going to be telling you about what I am going to be doing for Lent. I am going to praying more than I usually would. Like when I go to bed I am going to pray. When I wake up in the morning I am going to that god for waking me up in the morning. Last when I know some body is hurt I am going to pray for that person. What I will be doing for fasting is giving up the foods that I would eat like candy, and chips. I will be giving up video games and I will try to give up TV. Video games will be not that hard for me to give up I do; not play them that much. TV is going to be very hard for me to give up because I watch it all most all of the time .One more thing I want to give up is being mean to others .Now that will not be hard because I have not been doing it that much. When some one starts to make fun of me it is just a reaction to just to make fun of them back.
This lent I am going to do a lot of things to help me get ready for the death and rising of Jesus. Some of the things that I will try to do are almsgiving, praying, and fasting. Almsgiving is making voluntary contributions to aid the poor. The way that I will do that is by volunteering more at church. I will volunteer more at church because my church gives some of the money that they earn to poor families so that they can get food and clothes.
Praying is talking to God. The reason why I will pray is because it gives me a closer relationship with God. The closer I get in my relationship with God the better I will know what he wants me to do in my life.
Fasting is giving up something that you may think that you can’t live without, but really you can. This year I am going to fast from sugar and bread. The reason that I am fasting from sugar is because I eat a lot of sugar. When ever my mom watches me make my lunch she always asks me why I always put something sweet in my lunch. I say because I need it. The truth is I don’t really its just that I want it because it is there. The reason why I am fasting from bread is because my favorite cereal has bread and sugar in it. This is what I will be doing this lent.

Religion has been a very great part of my life and I’m glad to be able to show it at St. Joan of Arc School. During lent it prepares me for the death of our savior Jesus Christ. The three things that I’m going to discuss are prayer, almsgiving, and fasting. Firstly, in prayer I would say my prayers every night and day. For example when I was little I would say my prayer which says: now I lay me down to sleep I pray the lord my soul to keep if I die, and I won’t wake I pray the lord my soul to take. Also, I would pray for those who need help surviving like the kids in Africa. Like when they are trying to survive form Malaria. Another way that I am preparing for lent is fasting. The things that I would give up are quite hard for me to give up which are chips, pop, and fast food. Why fast food is because I love McDonalds especially a Big Mac and two smack wraps. Chips is because I’m a chips addict if you’re in the store with me I will ask you do you have a dollar so I could get some just ask my mom and aunt. Pop because every time I go in a fast food restaurant I always have to get a pop with my meal. Finally, Almsgiving is the last and final goal for my Lenten Activities. For my almsgiving I would give up the clothes that I can't fit any more for the poor young girls. Also, I would give food to the poor like on Easter I would go out to the soup kitchen and help out serving the food. Next, I would give all of the money that I have to the Salvation Army so they can give the money to the other organizations as well. These are the goals that I would reach during lent.

Throughout the Lent of 2008 I plan to fast, pray, and give to my community in the following ways. First of all I will pray more often than ever before. I already pray at each meal and before I go to sleep but I would also like to pray when I wake up in the morning and before a snack. I will also pray the prayer received after mass on Ash Wednesday each day until Easter. In order to give back to my community I will do the best I can to raise and donate money. I will also as often as possible go to a local soup kitchen and help out for the day. Another way that I will give back is that I am going to go through my closet and donate some of my clothes. Fasting is the third activity that I will take part in during Lent. I have recently learned a new way of fasting in which I will start out giving up one kind of meat and each weak I will add another meat to my list meanwhile I will give up playing video games and saying mean comments which I seemingly have started to do without even thinking because I have said so many over the years. In conclusion I plan to really come closer to God during this Lent and hopefully stay close forever.

I’m telling you in this essay, what I’m doing for Lent. I’m going to pray right when I wake up at the crack of dawn and right before I go to sleep. So really, I’m going to pray a lot more than I usually do [in the year]. When I see some one in a bad situation [ex. If their family member died] I’ll pray for them. For fasting, I’m going to give up eating bacon and eggs. I’ll also probably consider or try to give up playing video games and eating candy. But , even though I have a Xbox 360 , I don’t really play it that much because I read a lot now , watch TV , and to my homework. But it’s really hard not to watch TV, only because it has tour favorite shows. The last thing I want to give up is being kind of a pushover, since kind of let people push me around or I never say no. But, soon in time I’m not going to let any person I know take advantage of me. So probably see me, I’ll be really strict. This is what I’m going to do this Lenten season. I hope Lent will help more people understand about Jesus.
This is my first year at Saint Joan of Arc and how I will start fasting during lent is I will give up foods, activities, I will help people even more than I usually do, and I will pray some more so I can have a better relationship with God. I’m not Catholic but I will TRY to give up meat, sugar, and candy.
During this lent season I will TRY to give up eating fast foods like McDonalds, KFC, and Long John Silvers. Some of the activities I will give up are playing my PSP and all my other electronics, watching TV, and getting on my laptop. A way that I will help people more is by opening the door for other people, helping my little brother and sister with their homework, and helping Mrs. Sharp by not getting in trouble so I don’t interrupt her day. And I will remember my homework so I don’t have to make my teachers miss part of their own lunch. The most important thing I will do during lent is pray to God even more than I usually would. Before going to bed I will pray for the poor and thank God that I have a house and a family.
It is not hard to do these things because God gave his only son Jesus Christ to die on the cross for our sins so we don’t go to hell.
Aar-yana W.
This lent season I am going to read the bible and work on praying when I am suppose to. For example I am going to try to remember to pray before dinner, lunch, and bedtime. I am also going to write in my journal that Ms. Schafer gave us in religion class. I am going to also work on praying for others especially for the ones who upset me the most. What I gave up for this lent season is not getting mad at people. I guess was suppose t start today but that didn’t work out so much sent some one decided to yell at me I was trying to be come and all I could do was to strike back on her. But in the beginning I should have been the bigger person and just walk away. I also will attend mass on Thursday and Sunday. Some times I think about how god had of felt when he was on that cross and being nailed. I wonder if he asked his dad “why I do have to do this yes I love my people so dear in my heart but why me?” I pray for the less fortunate the most.

LENTEN PROMISES
My three Lenten promises are praying, almsgiving and fasting. My first Lenten promise is praying. I will do this is by praying to God every morning. I will do this is by waking up to talk to him and ask for forgiveness. I will also thank him for waking me up to see another day. Another way I am going to pray is by going to church and participating in mass. For example I will serve, bring up the collection and sing. My last way I am going to pray is by praying at every meal.
My second Lenten promise is almsgiving. Almsgiving is about giving things of value to someone or some organization. One way I will do this is by giving money at my church. The second thing I am going to do is bring in can foods so that the brownies can give them to needy people. I will also raise money for my school when we have our next fundraiser. I am donating my old books, toys, and clothes to St. Vincent de Paul Society.
Finally my last Lenten promise is fasting. One way I will do this is by not watching as much TV. I will try to be nicer to everyone. And I will try to be a good student and try to be good. I will not eat as much meat. I will also not eat in between meals. That is how I will pray, give of myself and fast.
Lent is a very holy time in the Catholic Church. Lent activities include fasting, almsgiving and prayer. I will sure include these three things in the next 40 days. How I will do this is ….start to pray more frequently than usual, I think that as a Christian I should pray to God and Jesus all the time. I have come to only pray when someone or thing is in jeopardy. I have figured out now that is not right to pray only when you need something. Praying will also help me to get closer to God. For Lent this year I plan on giving up junk food, I am giving this up because that is something that I love and is willing to give up for God. Doing this will also be to my benefit as a person to keep healthy and fit so for me this is a win-win situation. I plan on giving something else up but I can’t think of what is, I have a good idea though, I am thinking of maybe giving up watching T.V. because that is something that I enjoy and it will be a challenge to give up. For almsgiving I have set a goal to give clothes to poor because they need it more than I do. I will also go to the Wheeler Mission downtown to help with serving food or something of that nature. I am also going to give money to charity.
This Lenten season I will fast, do almsgiving, and I will strengthen my prayer life with God. How I will fast is giving up my two favorite things tea—cold or hot—and the computer unless it is helping someone ells or school work. I will try to drink water instead of tea and ignore the presence of it. With the computer, I can just walk out of the room.
I will also try to help others. I will donate food and time when I can to the people less fortunate then me. If I can, I will also donate money to charities and food programs. Also I will pray for them knowing that it is cold out side the must be cold so I will keep them in my prayers.
Lastly I will try to pray more often. I do not pray as much as I want to pray but most the time I for get and I don’t remember until I am doing something else. I also want to pray longer because when I do remember it is really short like “ thanks for every thing” so I want to pray longer and with more sincerity. These are the ways I will be more like Jesus this Lenten season.
Lent is coming very soon and I haven’t decided yet what I’m going to do for 40 days. This Lent I am going to try my best to pray, fast, and almsgiving. This Lent I will try to build a better relationship with God. Each morning I awake, I will start my day with a prayer and each night I will end my day with a prayer. On each Sunday, I will attend church. Usually, I would find a way to get out of going, but I promised myself to attend church this Lent. Also, reading a verse from the bible each day is another thing I will try to do for Lent. I will write to God in the notebook each day that I received from Mrs. Shaefer. Even though I am non Catholic, I will try to resist from eating meat on the days I’m not supposed to. Also, I will be giving up my favorite treat, candy. These ideas might be a little of a challenge for me, but I’ll try my best to achieve these goals. Lastly, I will try to give food to those less fortunate than me. I will go around my neighborhood and collect can goods from people. Towards the end of the month, I will go downtown and donate food to the poor. I feel that the poor deserve the same amount of food we eat each day. This is what I am going to do for Lent.
Alana D.
This Lenten season I am going to giving up candy and all sweets. It’s going to be hard because I eat candy almost as much as I eat real food. I will also be giving up video games and television; I’ll replace them with Bible studying and praying. As for almsgiving, I’m going to give more to churches, fundraisers, and people who have less than I do. I think giving to the less fortunate makes their life a little easier. When you help someone who doesn’t have God, you’re helping God with his holy acts of love and compassion. I’ll pray more often for everyone I know, and those I don’t. Going to church on Saturday and Thursday is another one of my Lenten goals. Lent is a time of fasting, almsgiving, pray, and giving of yourself to others in need have help. Lenten goals are kind of like New Years’ Resolutions, were have a few goals you want to do, and you strive to meet that goals. Mrs. Schaefer, my religion teacher, gave the class notebooks to write our conversations with God. I’m not sure what else to write in mine, I just write prayers. It feels like I’m just writing, but I know He’s listening.

What I have decided to give up for Lent is Popcorn, and being bossy. What is lent? Lent is when we celebrate the rising and the death of Jesus and you give up what you like the most for forty days. There is also more things that happen during lent such as Ash Wednesday, and Alms giving. Not to forget after lent there is another special occasion coming up and that is Easter. But for lent not only am I going to decide to give up popcorn but I am going to start donating to the poor such as Clothes, shoes, jewelry, and food. At first before I came to St. Joan of Arc in third grade I did not know the meaning of lent. I thought lent was just when you give up something you like for forty, but when became a student at St. Joan of Arc they began to teach us about religion and that’s how I found out what Lent was. When I was in my old school Christ Temple they did not teach us religion at all but when I came to St. Joan of Arc I learned stuff that I never even heard of, but when I came to St. Joan of Arc I learned a lot.
Michiko Jackson
The one thing I want to give up for lent is Hot Fries. The one of the reasons why I am giving of hot fries for lent is because of the fats and I want to be healthy for Kickball season. Another reason is because lent it makes think a bout what else I could be eating besides Hot Fries. The Lenten season is about Jesus but also about giving.
Almsgiving. Every time my family drive pass a homeless person, my grandmother yells at them and curses. I laugh the .I feel sorry for them. Once my grandmas threw a penny at a homeless guy and drove off, but let’s not get off subject, I want to start giving to others, because I don’t always want a gift, so that my solution for Lent.
This is going to be tough but I can manage. I like stick to my promises and not break them. I want to start donating clothing and food to the poor at gleaners charity. But the only reason I want give to homeless people is because some just use the money for bad things, for example, Mrs. Schaefer (religion teacher) told us that she gave a woman and man money for dollar general and 5 minutes later she sees putting 10 loads of coke and cereal, Mrs. Schaefer was very astonished by it. But I going start working at soup kitchens (like the one at our school) and Lifeteen another project at our school.
This lent I want to make a difference, not just for me, but for every one.
This Lenten season I will give up saying shut up I say shut up allot so it will be very hard for me to quite. One thing I can do to help me quite saying shut up is maybe invent a new word that is not as mean as shut up a word like hush hush, no talky talky, or hush no words spoken words like those. For prayer I want to start to listen to god because I already pray to god I just never give him the chance to talk to me, so for prayer I want to learn to listen to god and see what he has to say to me, also I want to read more in to the catholic religion because I know I get the jest of it I just don’t know all about it and what it really stands for. For almsgiving I want to give to the homeless by giving them clothes I don’t wear, I can do this through the salvation army, because every now and again they call and ask if we have things to give them, usually I say no so instead I going to say yes and get all the clothes I don’t wear and give them to the salvation army. That is what I want to do this Lenten season.
I am going to give up watching TV for lent, and it’s going to be very hard because I am always watching TV. I am going to pray every night before I go to bed, and when I wake up every morning. I will pray before I eat a meal everyday. I will also give up going on the computer; so I can do more studying. I will actually give money to charities instead of just saying whatever, and not giving anything. If I see a homeless person, or just any person who needs help I will help them. I will help out my family and friends when they need it. For almsgiving I will donate some cans to my school for the canned food drive. I will go to church on Sundays, and mass on Thursdays. I am going to recycle papers, and pickup trash lying outside, or inside my school. I will lead in grace before dinner starts. I will be respectful to all my peers. My room will get cleaned when my Mom asks for it to be. I will hold the door for my peers when they need it to be, and I will move out of the way if someone says excuse me.
What I will do for Lent, First I will be fasting. I’m not catholic at all but that I go to a private school I have to fast. I do believe in Jesus and all but I don’t think I should fast. I will fast anyways but I think I should since Jesus did I should also. I will be fasting junk food, for example little Debby cakes, and mostly Twix’s candy bar my favorite. Second is prayer, prayer is very important in my life. Because I pray with my family at the dinner table, and also alone by self. I like to pray because it makes me relax and become very calm. I am calm because I am in the presence of god and I feel very comfortable talk with god. God has shone me a lot in my life. For example, I had an situation with my Grandmother, she had surgery on here heart. She’s and elder and all but she have gone threw a lot in her life. Third, this all ties into what I am going to give to the community and my church and more. I have gone to the Lord’s Pantry with Ivan, His Grandfather owns the pantry. I will try my hardest to go more with and him and serve the homeless. To provide and help them get food to eat.

LENT
What I will do for Lent this year is give up playing Rock Band. It will be really hard because I play that game every time I go over to my neighbor which is a lot. Since Tuesday was Fat Tuesday I played it for like 4 hours, just straight jammin’ out.
This Lent I am going to pray a lot more. Usually I don’t pray a lot but I really want to strengthen my relationship with the man up stairs. I say ill do it but usually it’s just a bunch of empty promises, so this Lent I want to do better.
During almsgiving I am going to help the poor. I will help them by giving cans, money9when ever I see a homeless person), and giving clothes
This is strictly about my Lenten activities. The first thing on my list of Lenten activities is fasting. I know you usually think that you have to give up food but not this time. For my fasting activities I am going to give up yelling so much and try to be as nice as I can to my friends and family. Next up is prayer. This year I am going to pray more than I do already to keep my friendship with God on the best level it can be. I am also going to pray when I get up and just talk to God for no reason. For my almsgiving activities some of the things I will do are give food to the poor, give Good Will clothes, and give money to the church. Some of the other activities I will complete during Lent are giving up being rude in class, and treating others badly. I will complete all my home work so that I can have a lot more free time for myself. Another reason that I will complete my homework, so that I won’t have to go to homework club on Thursdays. These are most of my Lenten activities for the month.
Some of the things I am going to be doing over the coarse of lent are fasting praying and almsgiving. The first one I am going to talk about is fasting. I am going to give up my TV this will be hard because I watch TV every day. I will also be fasting from getting in trouble.
Another thing I will do for lent is pray more often. Some way I will do this is by praying when I get up and go to bed. I am also going to try to go to church every Sunday. Even though we pray at our school I think we should also pray by ourselves. Some the places I pray are in my room and in the kitchen. I will also pray before I eat every meal.
Finally for almsgiving I will give to different society such as the Ted Cross, Salvation Army and United Way. I also will recycle more. Even though our school has recycling bin pollution still goes on. I also can give can goods to my school tin order to help the school. Lastly I will give my old clothes to charity. To conclude my essay these are only some of the many things I will do during Lent
I am going to tell you what I am going to do this lent. First I will pray when I go to sleep and when I wake up in the morning. I’m also going to pray before lunch like we do at school. I am also going to pray for people that are homeless, hurt, or people that are less fortunate than me. Also I will go to church every Sunday or any Sunday that I can. Something else I will also be doing is fasting I will give up eating spaghetti which is probably going to be hard giving up. I’m also going to give up TV and video games these won’t be that hard for me because I don’t really play or watch TV that much. But worst of all I’m going to give up listening to music and music video’s on youtube which is probably going to be the hardest of all. Next I’m going to give up being mean or mad at someone. The last thing I’m going to do is almsgiving first I will start by giving can foods in the can food drive and to help me get extra credit in social studies. Next I will give money to fun raisers or donations to the hospital or homeless shelters in my neighborhood. The last thing I’m going to do for almsgiving is writing good letters to homeless shelter and to prisons to the people that are felling down.
One thing that I will give up for lent is playing guitar hero 3 this is probably the hardest thing that I can give up (I play like it’s my job). One way that I can alms give is to help the less fortunate. A way that I can give to the poor is to donate cans at my school. One way that I can pray more is to pray more often. I usually only pray when it is required at school or when I want something. I think that it is a good idea for me to pray more frequently and for better reasons that just wanting something. Actually doing all of these things will be hard for me because they are things that I don’t usually do. One thing that I will have to do to keep myself away from guitar hero is to have my parents take the disc and guitar away from me for the duration of lent. One thing that I can do to make sure that I give to the poor is to make a schedule to give two cans a week on every Monday. Another thing that I can do is to actually pray at church instead of playing around and talking.

Essay on Lent
Lent is coming up. There are a few things that Catholic’s do during this time. First, I will be praying more often. I will pray in the morning, in the afternoon, and before I go to bed. This will be very hard for me because I usually pray in church. When I pray I will pray about the injured and sick, and that they get better, about the homeless, that they get through the cold winter season. That is why I will pray and when I will pray.
Second, I will give more to the needy. I will give about two cans per week. I will give it to the Browne troop. They will give it to the poor and hungry. I will participate in all of the fundraisers that are going to be in our school. I will give money to the poor. I will give food to the poor. I will give clothes and books to the poor. Those are the things that I will give to the needy.
Third, I will also be fasting. I will be giving up sweets. Like Ring Pops, Snickers, and other candy. I will also be giving up having a lot of salty foods. I will not put a lot of salt on my food. I will be gaining riding my bike every day except when ever it is raining out side. Those are the three things that I will be doing for lent.

Lent
During lent I sometimes I don’t give up any thing, but this time I’m giving up fast food and candy. I’m going to start focus on my heath. I think I going to give up most of my video games. Like the violent games I play. Instead I will ether read a book.
What I will do for the community is donate cans for the home less. Every time I see someone with a need help I will at lest give them a dollar. And go over my service hours. I can some times clean up the class rooms after school. I will help the kids if they need it after school.

Lent essay
Lent is a special time in the catholic year. Lent is the forty days and nights that Jesus went into the desert and when he was tempted three times by the devil. In Lent, there is the Lenten three some and it consists of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. The first one is prayer. The only time prayer during the school at lunchtime. During Lent, I will prayer more then usually. An example is in the morning, at night, whenever someone I know that is hurt, parole, or sick.
The second piece is fasting. Fasting is the self-denial of something that you care about and instead of that doing that you will do something else. I will not only be giving up the usual catholic tradition, which is no meat on Fridays, but also I will cut down on my T.V. time. This will be hard for me because I watch T.V. when I do my homework, when I am eating breakfast and my afternoon snack.
The last one is almsgiving. Almsgiving is the giving of money, clothes, or can food goods. During Lent, I will help at the food link here at Saint Joan of Arc on February 23. I will also be donating one can of can goods to the Brownie troop here at Saint Joan of Arc a week.

Lent Essay
These are some examples that show how I will pray, fast, and give of myself. Some ways I will pray more frequently are by going to church more often, by praying before and after dinner. Every morning I will wake up and pray and vice versa when I go to sleep. During the hard times and the great times I will start to pray to thank god for my life and for my family and friends. Some ways I fast are by giving up pop since that’s the only thing I drink. I started giving up pop for my New Year’s resolutions, but I have decided to continue it for lent. I also will give up candy; the only exception is ice cream. Mrs. Schaefer is striving to get us to our goals by giving us the option to talk to god by writing in a special notebook. I think this is a good idea because this will have people praying more often than they use to. I think lent should last till the end of the year because you shouldn’t limit yourself only for a month to pray and give for God. You should do it all the time.

What I will do for Lent is I will give up playing my Play Station Two first of all. It will be hard because I play almost every day. Since today is fat Tuesday the day before Lent I will play my Play Station Two as much as I can. Secondly, The praying I do is not always the best I do not pray frequently. I want to do better, but later it doesn’t happen so this time I want to pray every day. When I do pray it is almost always done at school because it is required. I want to start praying when I get up and when I go to bed. This will make me closer with God because it will give me forgiveness for my sins. Lastly, I will try to give as much to the poor as I can. I am going to give cans, money, and clothes to poor. If I was poor I would want someone to help because it is the winter and it’s cold. The poor are a group that is forgotten when peoples own lives are going bad, But they still didn’t just go away their still their and in more need than us. I am going to give two cans a week to the brownie can food drive.
Religion is one of the important things in my life. So during the Lenten season I will be doing a lot of things like praying, fasting, and almsgiving.
The first thing m going to describe is fasting. What I am giving up for lent is pop, and that would be very hard for me because I have to a sprite every day I am sorry in a pop addict. Another thing I am gong to be giving up is texting. Texting is like my life I do it on the way to and from school, in the store, while I am eating. In other words I do it everywhere.
And for the second thing I am going to be doing for lent is praying. As my mommy said prayer is the best way to communicate with God. So I went to do that more. Some ways that I am going to do that is pray when I wake up and I am going to thank God that I am still alive. I will also pray that I have a wonderful and caring family.
The third thing I would do is almsgiving.
The brownie troop is doing a can food drive.
So for that I will be bringing in 2 cans every week for lent. I will also every other weekend go to a homeless shelter. I think that during the winter is the hardest time for homeless people.

Lent
What I doing for lent? I am doing for lent is praying, almsgiving, and fasting. Prayer is my first one. I going to prayer when I wake up, when I go to sleep, when I go to school/ church and where that is quiet. So when I prayer more I will get closer to God. I think prayer will help me be a better person. Almsgiving is my second one. I am going to give money to the poor. I am going to give them five dollars for forty days each week. I will be giving the money to Save the Whales, or Red Cross. I will be helping the poor a lot, so they can be happy that t they got more money to on something. Fasting is my third one. I am t to give up lots of junk food, I will exicrise every day until forty days end. I will start being extra nice to people. I will give up yelling at people and screaming. I will do the entire thing for Jesus and God, so I can be a better person. After the forty day I will celebrated I the things that I done on Easter. When Jesus rose again.
This year for Lent I will do the three most positive things: praying, fasting and almsgiving. The first is praying. How I will pray is by going to church and saying positive prayers. What I mean by positive prayers is asking Jesus for my forgiveness. What I mean by forgiveness is by letting go all my sins. I will make sure I have enough room for Jesus to talk so I can listen. I will pray every night before I go to bed. Praying before I go to bed will be hard because I barely pray at all before going to bed. I have problems trying to praying at night because I’m usually exhausted from a rough day at school.
Fasting will be the next thing I will have to work on is because I’m a big meat eater. So every Friday I will try not to eat meat at all. This will be really hard for me. Every time I see a piece of chicken I’m tempted to eat it. So starting this Friday I will try not to eat meat all. This is a tough decision for me to make a real tough one. I know I will be able to manage it though. I will also try to give up candy. I temp to eat it every time I see it. Especially Mike’n’ Ikes, those are really tempting.
Almsgiving will be the last thing I do for lent. I will bring in can foods for the poor people. I donate all my to little clothes and shoes to those who need it the most. I seem to be really greedy when I it comes to those who really needs the clothes more then I do.
What I’m going to do for fasting is that I’m going to give up pop because everyday I have to drink up to three or four pops a day . I don’t k now why but they are good. What I’m trying to do is that I will pray every time I go to sleep and in the morning . I would also say please, thank you ,and excuse me more. Then I would try to help my friends out if they need help with anything and I would try to say hello to all of my teachers without them saying it to me. Since I go almost every Saturday to the lord’s Pantry with my parents to feed the poor I will help people carry there grocers to there car and I would take some of the kids some clothes or shoes that I don’t wear because maybe some of them kids don’t have shoes on or socks and they don’t have jackets so I would probably take them a jacket. Also on Wednesday when we go to the Lord’s Pantry for Spaghetti diner I would go and ask people what do they want to drink and I would give them there spaghetti and also I would ask them if they wont a blanket because when we are about to leave we also give out blankets.
The things that i am going to do for Lent are pray, fasting, and almsgiving. What I am going to do in pray is I am going to start praying when I get up, go to bed,and for the injored people. I will pray in the morning to help start the day with god,I will pray before I go to bed because it is a good way to end the day with god, and I will pray for the injored people because they could get hurt and do not have someone to look out for them, and they need pray.
Another thing that I am going to do during Lent is fasting. Fasting is when you give up food, a game, the computer, ect. for Lent (40 days). What i am going to give up for Lent is the radio. It should not be hard for me because i do not lisen to it that much. Another thing I am going to give up for Lent is watching moves. That is going to be hard for me because I like to watch moves alot.
The last thing I am going to do is Almsgiving. Almsgiving is when you give money and clothes to people that need it.I will give about $5.00 to American Red Cross and the Julyins Shelter. So that they can help more people.

Lent
The forty days of Lent. For fasting I will give up playing video games I know this is going to be hard. And I will give up talking on the phone with my friends in Chicago, and Del Rio, Texas. And I will give up riding my skateboard to my friend’s house or skating at the skate park. And I will give up eating meat, candy, and sugar. And for praying I will pray when I go to bed, and pray in the morning, and at lunch and I will pray with my little sister because my little sister really likes praying when she goes to bed. And for almsgiving when I go to church on Sunday I will put money in the basket at mass. When I’m not doing nothing on the weekends I will make fundraisers to maybe give money to the poor or maybe collect can foods, chips…… to give to the troops in Iraq that are in Iraq fighting for our country. And maybe give money to charities that will give homeless people a home to live at. And give money to Riley’s Hospital for the children and give money to pets that are homeless.

Lent
The things I am going to do for lent is praying, fasting, and almsgiving. I will pray when I wake up and when I go to bed. I will pray for people who are hurt and people going through hard time and also me family. I will also pray more because I don’t really pray all that much. I what to be closing with God because I do not feel a powerful connection with God. Next, I will be fasting for Lent. I am going to be fasting my gameboy and yelling. I am fasting my game boy because I play it often because it is really fun. It will be hard for me to do that but I can do. It will be really hard for me to stop yelling until 40 days are up. I get mad easily so I tin to yell a lot. Final, almsgiving I am going to give back to people in need. I am going to give money to charity like United Way, Red Cross, Save the Whales, and to the Riley Hospital. I will probably give 3 dollars every two weeks all through the 40 days.
Those are the things I am going to do for lent.
This year during lent u can garentee that I’m going to be thinking a little different than usual. I think that becase some of the things that have happened to me in the past few weeks or so I have a new meaning of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving.
First on praying; I will be in church praying for god and praying for everybody so that theyhave a great Easter. I will pray before each meal so that god knows that I am thnkful for the food that I have and am givin. Next I will hit the topic of fasting. I will not only be fasting from meat on all holy days, but I will be fasting from things like bad behavior, staying away from some of the people ang friends that are in my life that have kind of a bad in fluence on me, and substaining from things that coulg possible harm me or others or could get me into trouble. I think that some times you need to just get away from the bad things in life. Finally almsgiving; this means that for the next few weeks I’m going to be voluntering for things in my nieghbor hood that could help the community like the fod link thats coming up. I’m going to have a real enlightening time helping others in need. So now after all that I’m going to go and pray that I get a good grade on this!!!!!
Yesterday was Ash Wednesday, which is the beginning of Lent. Lent is the annual season of fasting and penitence in preparation for Easter. This Lent season I will discover a whole new way to pray, fast, and alms give. Praying is an area where I definitely need to improve. I want to bring myself closer to God. I will do this by taking more time out of the day to pray and worship God. I intend to pray in the morning when I wake up and at night before I go to sleep. I think this will build my spiritual connection with Christ. I will also go to church more often. I will try to comprehend and understand the scriptures as much as I can. Something else I will keep in mind during Lent is to sacrifice some of my favorite and most valued hobbies, items, and activities. Say for instance, I love to watch television and listen to music. I will give up these hobbies for Lent. Not doing these things will be hard, but it will bring me nearer to God. Another notion to keep in my thoughts is to alms give. For example, I will help my brother or my sister on something they need help on. I will even give to the poor and less fortunate. I will donate as many cans as possible to keep homeless people fed. At the end of Lent I will feel proud of myself and feel more connected to God.
Yesterday was ash Wednesday and the ashes put on our heads represented the palm tree leaves burned at the end of lent in 2007. We as Christans during Lent are supposed to fast, which means to deny of yourself things such as food, video games, habits, and electronics like guitar hero and halo 3. The way that I am fasting is by not watching bad television like mad TV, Chapelle show, and mind of mencia on comedy central. The reason I am not watching these show is because they teach bad habits like cursing and fighting, these shows lso show bad things (especially Chapelle show) like drug use and prostitution. Also we are supposed to almsgive, which means to give to the poor or the needy. During this Lenten season I am planning on giving two cans of food to the canned food drive sponsored by the brownie troop fourhunderd-sixteen, and I would like to give some clothing to the salvation army stly clothing drive sponsored be Mr. Heneghan. And finally we are to pray extra (or actually pray out of school in the first place) during the Lenten season. Like praying before I go to bed and doing it before I eat at home.
